What is Giclée?
Giclée comes from the French word meaning to spray and thus came the name for this state-of-the-art digital printing process which uses a complex fixed or variable ultra fine spray pattern. In short, the process renders the pixels almost undetectable to the naked eye, offering unparalleled high resolution images that are true to the original, in all it's fine nuances of color and brushstroke. Giclée is especially suited for enlarged images where tight resolution holds well; thus this process is the reproduction method of choice for museums and galleries as well as professional artists everywhere.
Giclée printing can be done on fine art archival paper as well as on canvas.
Rose Datoc Dall's giclée prints on paper arrive un-mounted and unframed. The artist recommends her customers to the prompt have the print matted, mounted and framed behind glass by a reputable framer. Framing will offer the most protection for your print and prevent damage. Long term storage in the shipping container is not recommended due to the potential of acid transfer over time on non-neutral packing materials, in addition to curling of your print if it is received in a mailing tube. Storing the print flat in an Archival Print Sleeve or Archival Print Box is the only recommendation for long-term storage if framing is delayed.
Rose Datoc Dall's giclée prints on canvas also arrive un-mounted & un-stretched in a mailing tube (no canvas stretcher). It is likewise recommended to have your print stretched onto a canvas stretcher and framed promptly by a reputable framer, which too will offer your print the most protection for your investment. Glass is not necessary for framing of canvas prints. Long-term storage in a mailing tube is not recommended since it not PH neutral, nor is it recommended as it may induce cracking of the protective film on your print. Store flat in an Archival Print Sleeve or Archival Print Box if framing is delayed for any length of time.
